Dunagiri Temple - Famous temple of Uttarakhand

There is a many old Shaktipeeth temple in Uttarakhand, one of them is known as Dunagiri Vaishnavi Shaktipeeth Temple. After Vaishno Devi Temple, Dunagiri is the second Vaishnavi Shaktipeeth temple, a little away from Almora district of Uttarakhand, from Dwarahat Going beyond this, the temple of Mata Dunagiri Mata is considered a center of immense faith and reverence.




Katyuri ruler Shudhar Dev installed Durga idol by constructing the temple in 1318 AD. Not only this, also the idol of Goddess Parvati is Established in the temple.

Regarding the Dunagiri temple, people believe that in the Treta Yug, when Laxman ji injured by the power of Meghnath then Shushend Vaith ji asked Hanuman ji to bring Sanjeevani Booti from Drunachal mountain. When Hanuman ji was lifting the mountain from that place, he fell a small piece of mountain and then the  temple of Dunagiri was built at the same place.





It is said that Dronacharya, the guru of the Pandavas had done penance in this mountain, therefore, it is also named Dronagiri mountain.

The Puranas and the Upanidadha have describe this temple in the form of Maya Maheswari or Prakriti Purush or Durga and Kali. It is said that the treatment of Lakshman ji from Dronachal mountain in Lanka war or Hanuman ji's fight with Maya Asura Kalmini tells the history of its Treta Yuga.



According to the Vedic Purana, the Pandavas worshiped Dronagiri as Durga for victory in their war during their unknown lives.

To visit the Duragiri grand temple, 500 stair have to be climbed, many types of  herb are found in the Dunagiri mountain.
